How the planner decides

Every stop in the planner comes from the same sources as the rest of this guide. It starts you at a parking lot, because since May 2026 several free city lots have a two-hour limit and that changes the order of a day. It puts lunch near midday and dinner in the evening, keeps stops that need a car out of an on-foot plan, and leaves tubing out of any date outside the outfitters’ season.

The times it shows are our suggestions for an easy pace. They are not opening hours. Each stop links to its source, and hours and prices change through the year.

Getting to Helen

The Welcome Center describes Helen as under two hours from Atlanta. Main Street through town is Georgia Highways 17 and 75, and GA-356 leads east from town to Unicoi State Park and Anna Ruby Falls.

When to come

The Welcome Center calls fall, with Oktoberfest, an especially popular time, says Christmas draws large crowds too, and calls spring and summer the less crowded seasons. If you can, come on a weekday.

Quick answers
